Detroit Working Writers Annual Conference
September 16, 2017
This all-day event includes luncheon and will be held at Michigan State University Management Education Center, 811 W. Square Lake Rd. in Troy, Michigan, 48098.
Our keynote speaker is award-winning author Weam Namou.
Weam Namou has authored twelve books, most recently her memoir series about how her experiences in a four-year spiritual program deepened her commitment to writing, to her family and to herself.
For 10 years, she has been a journalist for the Chaldean News and is a reporter for and ambassador of Arab America. Namou has been a columnist for several newspapers in the tri-county area and her poetry has appeared in national and international publications. She has been interviewed on radio and film, and was awarded a Lifetime Achievement award from E’Rootha in 2012. She has lectured widely and has recently been tapped by Writer’s Digest to lead a writing workshop.
Conference workshops include Weam Namou on successful self-publishing, Linda Sienkiewicz on finding character voice, and Liz King on how her interest in cooking led to a lucrative writing career. Many more workshops are in the planning stages, including a roundtable of editors and agents led by DWW President Carl Anthony. Individual agent and editor appointments will be available at an additional fee.
