As the newest genre in American writing, the prose poem presents writers with a unique opportunity to innovate and rebel. After reviewing a brief history of the form and its entrance into the U.S., several examples will be read to prime the creative pump. Participants will then try their hand at writing a prose poem or two!
David James has published three books and six chapbooks of poetry; in addition, more than thirty of his one-act plays have been produced, even six of them off-Broadway in NYC. He teaches creative writing at Oakland Community College.
